What always puzzles me about the concept of free will vs not-free will is when I look at my life, not in the micro-second range of awareness being illustrated here, but in the longer-term arc of my life experience. For example, was I predestined to be a dentist? To be an atheist, or liberal, or musician or blogger? Do all the microsecond events in which we experience life and believe that we have free will just sum up to our current condition at any given moment, irrevocably and unerringly? Or is there a difference between microsecond determinism and long-term non-determinism in which we do have choice?
