He would have been 76 today. When I was a kid, I really didn’t understand his impact on kids like my brother, who, like so many young boys, looked up to him and wanted to be him. But I understand much better now that he lent hope, encouragement, a certain kind of legitimacy, and a sense of empowerment to all kinds of people who felt on the outside.
Wish he’d had the last four decades to share more of his ideas with us, but fortunately, he gifted us with a lot of good ones before his untimely death.
